EVERYTHING I PACKED FOR CAPETOWN
The title is misleading. This is everything I *plan* to wear in Capetown.
When I’m packing, this is my process: I look at the days I will be away and jot them down (in most cases by hand, in an actual notebook). Then I will look at the weather and the events that are planned for the trip. This time, I planned most of my outfits on Indyx.

As Tibi’s guide on packing suggested, I tried to choose a mood for this trip: I landed on ‘simple nineties off-duty’. I am not one to invent an entire new personality for myself when I’m on vacation, so it’s funny how I look too city-like sometimes and the risk is there for this trip, too.
I don’t usually wear all of the outfits and not exactly as planned. Sometimes, other plans come up or I’m not in the mood for an outfit on that day. Also, I’ve heard different opinions on safety there (so quick disclaimer: the outfits show my APC bag, I’m not bringing that, I will bring a cheaper version I had my eyes on from Reserved). I also included my Rayban sunglasses in the screenshots, I’m not taking them.
So let’s see what we’re working with.
Travel outfit
Fun fact: This is my first flight outside of Europe. I don’t usually dress down for flying, I just want comfy clothes but I would normally fly in a blazer and leather jacket. I don’t get the difference to a train ride. However, it’s not my usual four-hour-flight but it will be a twelve-hour-long journey. So comfort is key … and the ability to quickly change from cold Germany to warm South Africa. I went for trusted basics and layers and will change my sneakers for flip flops as soon as we land. I will wear the same thing on the flight back home. In case of emergency, I could wash some clothes at a friend’s house while we’re there.
First day
Our first day will be a very chilled day where we’ll just have breakfast and unpack in our hotel room. We have a table booked for dinner at a garden restaurant with a view. Other than that, I think we’ll just start the trip off slowly. So it’s a simple easy outfit for the day and a casual dress for the evening. I assume it get’s a bit chilly in the evening so I packed a long knit dress.
Concert
On Wednesday, we have tickets for a concert which was upgraded from a garden venue to a beach club. It’s an Indie band and I think it will be more some sort of a casual evening. However, I want to wear a dress and an oversized blazer. So it’s maybe one of these options:
Safari trip and hiking
We will be doing one Safari tour and I am sure we’ll be hiking on another day, too. So I planned two outfits that are more functional. This is absolutely out of my usual styling pattern. I do work out and wear gym clothes a lot. And then, I dress up for all other life occasions. But there’s normally no in-between. So here’s what I came up with: biker shorts, tank top, sneakers and an oversized linen shirt, a baseball hat, paired with the popular Uniqlo bag I bought just for its function (and price).
Wine tasting
We want to go to a wine tasting tour during our stay and I plan to wear a longer uncomplicated dress for this. I don’t know if it fits the occasion but we’ll see.
Simple day outfits
I packed a few day time outfits following the same two formulas: It’s either pants and a racerbacktop or linenshorts + linenshirt or combinations of this.
Warmer evening outfits
From my trip to Rhodes last May and my trip to Ibiza last September I remember that both times, I missed jeans. I have a white pair I could bring but it’s not really matching my other outfit ideas so it will be a light wash denim and a few dress-with-leather-jacket-looks. I can’t to wait to wear longer pants with flip flops again this summer so this is a great opportunity to grab my sandals again!
And that’s it. I always feel like I pack very boring stuff but my wardrobe is monochrome and it makes packing so much easier. Also, relying on sets is great and gives you options.
I’ll be giving you an update on what I actually wore in a seperate post!
