STYLE NOTES ON: JENNIFER LAWRENCE
A style evolution for the books, broken down to all the details.
The first time I started seeing Jennifer Lawrence as a fashion girl rather than an actress was in her role in Red Sparrow. In this 2018 spy thriller, Lawrence was dressed by Trish Summerville who brilliantly combined the two sides of her role with the costumes. While the main character had to blend in and hide with neutral colors and silhouettes for the most part, she was also set up to seduce her male counterpart in great ballet costumes, bathing suits with cut-outs and red sparkly dresses. If you’re interested in Trish Summerville’s costume design concept, I recommend this article.
Fast forward to 2025, Jennifer Lawrence has had a style evolution over the course of the past five to seven years which often is described with the word ‘rowification’: She started wearing muted colors also in private pictures and started wearing more oversized clothes - and she started wearing The Row … a lot.
You can’t help but notice a more effortless way of dressing overall. As American Vogue explains it, Jennifer Lawrence has perfected Everywoman Style.
So, of course this changes can be broken down into certain elements. What I think is most remarkable is that Jennifer Lawrence, known to be a very funny and strong person, is representing her personality way better with her latest way of dressing.
STYLE FOUNDATION: WORKING TOGETHER WITH JAMIE MIZRAHI
Of course you are more successful at such a big project as a style evolution with some helping hands. Enter Jamie Mizrahi, trusted stylist of not only Lawrence, but also Jeremy White Allen and Adele. Jamie Mizrahi explained in an interview that the partnership just ‘organically happened’ and ‘the process is just fun’ and I think you can absolutely see that with Jamie and Jennifer. I love how Jamie emphasizes that the entire process is about learning, evolving and understanding how to communicate.
STYLE FOUNDATION: LONG, UNDONE HAIR
I think the foundation to an effortless look can be longer, more undone hair. Lawrence started her style journey with a blonde bob, and now has longer, more curly hair that goes down to boob-length. She hardly ever wears her hair in a ponytail or bun - only on the exception of a very fancy red carpet event.
STYLE FORMULA: REPEATING WIDE LEG PANTS
In theory, Jennifer Lawrence’s style formulas are simple and easy to copy: She has found her silhouettes and is repeating them endlessly. The most repeated element are wide mid waist to low waist wide leg pants- in off white, classic blue and darker colors.
