STYLE NOTES ON: JULIE PELIPAS
Style crushes hit differently. Here is why I have been stalking every image there is of Julie Pelipas.
I have discovered Julie Pelipas through a street style picture of her wearing a trench coat and a turtleneck and I was immediately impressed by her impeccable simple yet elegant and strong style. That was probably around four or five years ago. Being an editor for Vogue Ukraine and Harper’s Bazaar I guess the style comes with the job title. She now has her own fashion label, Bettter, which focuses on sustainability and up cycling. (Do yourself a favor and look at their campaigns, too!).
However, her attitude and her eye for a really good editorial is something extra. To me, she embodies everything I want my clothes to say.
Her Instagram is a 10/10 collection of private and work photos, inspiration from editorials and simple quotes. Ever since the war started in the Ukraine, she has also been posting political content.
Here are my style notes on her signatures:
Simple but strong silhouettes are key to her style. She likes to wear oversized silhouettes.
To balance out her simple style, she would often add a statement earring and / or statement sunglasses to a look.
Minimal makeup, hair down or in a bun.
We need to talk about her holiday wardrobe! Minimal bathing suits and bikinis with added structure, jewelry to the beach and said statement sunglasses! Oversized linen shirts and wide pants! Very cool holiday pictures!
She is one of the two persons (along with Lizzy Hadfield) whose style has not changed much over the last years, or maybe only the slightest, but always feels modern.
She manages to look very sexy and elegant at the same time. That is something you cannot train to do.
What am I taking away for my personal style?
Dare to wear simpler things! When put together well, they can make a statement.
Dare to wear more masculine pieces and add a female energy to them.
Find a signature hair look and signature style in general.
Get some simple swimwear and pair it with statement sunnies and chunky earrings!
Put her pictures on the moodboard for my next holiday.
Buy less, wear a uniform.
I like simple and structured pieces. I like a bold attitude.

A freaking good video on her brand Bettter which also covers a bit of her story and personal style: Check it out on Youtube.
The Guest Podcast featuring Julie Pelipas talking to Naomi Smart.
This amazing article on work wardrobes, including wonderful quotes like this: “I try to build up a wardrobe of ‘icons’ with memories behind them and, because they are all items that I truly love, I never mind wearing the same things many times over.”
She is inspired. ❤️
Just did a deep dive on her style and listened to the Guest podcast on my morning walk, so good! Love this post
