STYLE NOTES ON: LAURA HARRIER

Minimal, nineties ... and signature silhouettes and fits. Laura Harrier is a great example for a silhouette repeater rather than an outfit repeater - the ultimate personal style formula.

TikTok and me, it’s a love-hate-thing. I hate scrolling mindlessly which happens every time I go on the app. I love the niches it has and the inspiration it gives. Which is different to Instagram or Pinterest. TikTok has a real vibe to it. Unfiltered. Nerdy sometimes. Conversations with friends.

In one of my mindlessly-scrolling-sessions, I came across Laura Harrier, 34, American actress and model.
Not being an overly cinema-person, I didn’t know her. But she has style. Being one of the Danielle Goldberg - girls (read this Substack on stylist Danielle Goldberg, it’s goood!) and being a YSL-ambassador, of course she has a certain foundation from which not too much can go wrong.

We all know that it is an ultimate goal to become an outfit repeater. Because it means that you stay true to your personal style. But what about silhouette repeating?

I saw this TikTok on the topic of fits by one of my favorites, Bari, The Curated Tastemaker the other day and couldn’t help but wonder: Once you have found the fits you like, is silhouette repeating the solution to all personal style crisis?
(Btw, if you find the topic interesting, you should head to her TikTok video, reply to the questions, and take notes - it’s on point).

Such a great personal style lesson, to be found here

Laura Harrier is a great example for the repetition of certain fits and silhouettes, let me break it down for you.

THE SIGNATURE STYLE

THE THREE WORDS: SIGNATURE SILHOUETTES, MINIMAL AND NINETIES

When I am in style-stalking-mode, it tends to get obsessive. So, I also listened to Laura’s Who What Wear podcast episode on her collaboration with Reformation. I personally found this episode better with more insights on Laura’s personal style than this older podcast episode which is a conversation between Danielle Goldberg and Laura.

  • For me, Laura’s three words are signature silhouettes, minimal and nineties. She talks about the nineties inspiration on the podcast, too.

  • As I mentioned, she is styled by Danielle Goldberg, who, as Laura says, has ‘refined her style’. Here is how:

SIGNATURE SILHOUETTE NO. 1: HIGH WAIST

In all of Laura’s outfits, Danielle and Laura worked with a high waist line - on jeans or skirts alike. Highlighted by a cropped jacket or a belt, also with tucked in shirts and t-shirts, the silhouette is found repeatedly in Laura’s outfits.
