STYLE NOTES ON: SHAWNY SANDER
Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy meets edgy retro: This is Shawny Sander, German creator from Berlin and lover of vintage cars. Take a look at her signature style with me.
It’s weekly Style Notes time! This week, I’d like to introduce you to Shawny Sander. Shawny is a German fashion and lifestyle creator, and ambassador of Porsche.
Long blonde hair, an amazing collection of leather jackets and the most stylish home, Shawny has quickly become one of my Instagram favorites! Her aesthetic pictures and high quality reels are giving me fashion magazine vibes and also the international flair most Germans are lacking.

I can see I have a thing for long blonde hair when I look at my previous Style Notes newsletters. I also recognize I am drawn to a minimalistic style with retro elements - and when I think about it … this is something that hasn’t changed for me in the last ten years or so.
Shawny is playing the game of minimal style so well by adding vintage elements and a tiny detail of excitement - may it be a cowboy boot, a big earring or a pair of retro sunglasses.
What makes her a real style icon for me is that she has a lifestyle. Her home looks amazing and her love for vintage cars is obvious and makes sense.
Here are my style notes on Shawny’s signatures:
It’s all about simple basics. It is clear cuts, strong silhouettes, high quality fabrics and only a bit of accessories.
Nineties style but elegant: Said simple basics, mixed with strong vintage leather jackets and pointy boots.
Hair as an element of style: I said it before and I will say it again: Hair is a style element. It moves. It gives structure to an outfit. It can be the effortless or natural in your three style words. It gives coverage and it gives life to a look.
She owns a lifestyle rather than a wardrobe. As any of the women I featured in the Style Notes, you can see a coherent story telling in the way Shawny dresses, the home she lives in, to the cars she drives. It’s all nineties, elegant, edgy. LOVE.
What am I taking away for my personal style?
I am drawn to the nineties stylewise more than I think.
I need to grow my hair, too (working on this!).
Look at your lifestyle in a wholesome (?) way. It is not only your wardrobe, it’s your home and your routine, it’s your car and the food you buy, the music you listen to and the food you buy.
I love a good western element, I guess.
Again, I wanted to say a huge thank you to everyone who follows, comments and joins the conversation. These Style Notes newsletters are so much fun to do and the list of women I want to introduce with this is endless. If you have someone particular you’d like to see a Style Notes newsletter on, please let me know.
Thanks! xx
I love these profiles! I do think that sometimes it’s a lot to do with the fact that they’re conventionally attractive: beautiful face, slim, tall, long blond hair. Especially when their look is mainly about basics it’s tough to tell how much of it is really style vs looks.
I love these profiles too! Especially as I am not on instagram, so you point me towards interesting people. I would suggest @masha as someone else for you to take a deeper look at - she is also very conventionally attractive as Xue has mentioned, but I also admire her style.
