STYLE NOTES ON: SIDSEL ALLING
I find it extremely hard to find authentic people on Instagram these days. Sidsel Alling is one of the exceptions. Member of my personal Scandinavian style league, she makes my feed a better place.
Since Pinterest has been my favorite source of inspiration forever, photos of Sidsel Alling have now and then crossed my path before. It has been a year or so that I have developed this deep enthusiasm for her Instagram and her work for Elle DK.
In a world of very staged outfit pictures and sponsored head-to-toe-looks, Sidsel stands out with a simple down-to-earth attitude and style. Mostly dressed in jeans and oversized blazers, her Scandinavian charm and her relaxed self-irony makes you want to be friends with her. My theory that long, great hair is half your outfit contributes to this in the best way.
Her feed is a collection of real life moments in outfits that seem effortless but are on point. She is a chronic outfit repeater and you can tell she cares about her wardrobe. She once answered a question in her story that asked what she would buy if she had to buy a wardrobe from scratch and her reply stuck with me: She said that she would be devastated if she had to give up her entire wardrobe because there were so many pieces she truly loved and couldn’t replace. I stopped for a second and thought to myself, ‘Oh my God, this is my goal!’.
I truly recommend watching her stories. Then way she talks about her wardrobe and vintage and also her work is so contagious!
If you have missed one of my Sunday updates where I shared a list of links to her recommendations, here is my post and here is her curation of great things.
Here are my style notes on Sidsel’s signatures:
Her key pieces are a good pair of jeans, an oversized blazer, a statement bag and good shoes. Invest in basics!
While being very simple in her outfit choices, she wears the brightest attitude. There’s barely a picture in which she doesn’t smile and her captions are so funny it often hurts.
She loves oversized silhouettes.
She is wearing outfits in real life. Her clothes are in perfect harmony to her lifestyle.
She loves vintage shopping.
Minimal makeup, hair mostly undone and with a natural wave.
She is Scandinavian to the bone and this is represented in her wardrobe.
She also has a signature style. Throughout the seasons, the looks do not change much. They speak the same language.
She went to a festival this summer and posted about it on Instagram and while I would really be scared of what to wear, she just went with her everyday looks and an amazing gold statement bag. However, she does incorporate trends into her outfits, like the famous Challengers ‘I TOLD YA’-shirt or studded ballet flats. Working in fashion, I guess this is her way of keeping up with the industry.
She mixes designer, mid-price brands and high street pieces in the best way. I guess it is stated in her birth certificate that she is a Ganni girl and enjoys various other Scandi brands but then again, she keeps recommending a Weekday Men sweater, too.
What am I taking away for my personal style?
HAVE AN ATTITUDE! It ties an outfit together.
Buy simple but good quality basics.
Find a signature hair look and signature style in general. Grow your hair long!
Again: Learn how to shop for vintage pieces. I am so bad at this!
I need to learn to create outfits for the life I am living rather than for some random occasions that will never happen.
STYLE IDEAS I AM STEALING FOR FALL
While I already styled two or three Sidsel-outfits this summer, there are more items on my fall wishlist because of her.

Whenever I visit Sidsel’s feed or watch her stories, it is the best lesson in Scandi style. I leave with instant inspiration and a newly inflamed enthusiasm for fashion and personal style. Which is the best feeling, no?
She truly has a unique yet classic point of view - obsessed with her wardrobe!!
