STYLE NOTES ON: THE MOOSGAARD TWINS
A Style Notes newsletter on the Moosgaard twins? Ground-breaking. I am doing this anyway. Because their style is too good not to. Here is an analysis of seven Moosgaard outfit formulas.
Please note that this edition of the Style Notes is more … ‘educational’ than my previous Style Notes posts. You will find Moosgaard outfit formulas below, for instance.
I recommend opening this article in your browser instead of the app or your e-mail.
Welcome to the Scandinavian style paradise where the colors are muted and the wardrobes scream ‘Toteme’ before you even open them. Welcome to the dreamland of oversized trench coats and the best-fitting vintage jeans, to the garden of Eden effortless chic, to the land of long, undone hair and elegant but never exaggerated looks.
If you are not familiar with the Moosgaard twins, let me introduce you to Amalie and Cecilie (even their names are elegant, non?). Born in Denmark, they were scouted as models at the age of 13 and have been in the fashion industry since they were 16. The twin sisters are currently living in Copenhagen and founded their jewelry brand LIÉ STUDIO in 2021.
Let me first break down the reasons that make it easy to fall for their style.

THE TWIN EFFECT
I think one of the reasons for our obsession with them is the twin effect. It is not one but two beautiful women you can hardly tell apart and they automatically double the effect of a good outfit. As their style is so consistent, photographed together, they give the most appealing harmony in colors, silhouettes and structures.
THE SCANDI EFFECT
Let’s be honest, we are all a bit addicted to the Scandinavian laid back but elegant style by nature so it is a given we are falling for every Scandinavian girl who gives us a reason to stare at.
THE MODEL OFF DUTY EFFECT
As they were originally scouted to be models, they look the part. That doesn’t hurt when looking at good style. It creates the model off duty - look on its own. They can pull off the simplest look and their hair, skin and slim figures do the rest.
Not only are we fans of their personal style for the reasons mentioned above, but they also know how to style their looks in such a way that they always tell the same story but never get boring.
THE MOOSGAARD FORMULAS
As we are a bit obsessed with (personal) style on this platform, let me break down the Moosgaard outfit formulas with you.

1. A BAG THAT BREAKS THE LOOK IN COLOR AND / OR SHAPE
2. ADD SKIN WHERE SKIN IS NEEDED WITH HEAVIER, OVERSIZED OR PLAIN LOOKS
3. ELONGATE OUTFITS THAT NEED LENGTH WITH STRAIGHT LEG DENIM
4. OVERSIZED COATS + SLIM ELEMENTS
The ‘slim elements’ include
skinnier denim choices
tighter sweaters
slim sunglasses vs. big sunglasses
slim bags
slim shoes
tiny details such as earrings and more delicate bracelets

5. ADD STRUCTURE WITH HEAVY MATERIAL / OVERSIZED SILHOUETTES ON TOP AND KEEP A SLIM STRUCTURE FOR YOUR LEGS
This includes:
heavy knit sweaters over your shoulders
turtle necks (!!) - they love turtle necks
hats
heavy jackets
oversized blazers and blazers over the shoulder

6. ADD ‘UNDONE’ ELEMENTS
We are crazy for ‘undone’ elements over here. ‘We’ is everyone who tried to put their style into Allison Bornstein’s three words at some point. Here is a great lesson in having an undone element by our favorite twins.
Here are their most used ‘undone’ elements:
wavy, undone hair
open collars (their coats are often worn open and the collars fall ‘into place’)
tucked-in hair and ‘thrown over’-look (the hair, their bags, the sweater over the shoulder as well)
their arm length in sweaters and coats is always a bit too long (see?)

7.ACCENTUATE THE HIPS AND ADD CONTRAST
Accents can be added to a look with:
lighter colors in denim
belts
blazer / jackets that are buttoned up
contrast colors between top and bottom
tucked-in sweaters (half-tucked or fully tucked in)
I hope you liked this more analytical post today. It was so much fun to break down their looks and look at them from a styling point of view. Of course this very much leans into style-overthinking as well - however, it’s worth the effort if you look effortless as a result, right?
Great visual analysis Anika - love how you used circles in the photos to highlight your writing.
Thank you for introducing me to these girls! I wonder if they would like to be my friend? 🤣 they’re super cool and the outfits are 👌🏼
