SUNDAY UPDATE #35
when life is faster than your wardrobe, make your life easier by styling your screenshots.
This post is too long for e-mail. Please enjoy on the Substack website or via the Substack app. Thanks!
Happy Sunday, everyone!
This week, life was faster than my wardrobe and I found peace in reconnecting with my wardrobe by steaming all of my favorite pieces and styling my screenshots.
THIS WEEK IN NUMBERS AND WORDS
FASHION CRISIS: 1 - I didn’t know what to wear to my sister’s birthday on Saturday and ended up with a formula I’ve seen on Anna Talashova: Maxi skirt + oversized tee + flip flops. In my case, it was a dress I got in Madrid that served the same purpose.
ITEMS SOLD: 0
ITEMS BOUGHT: 1 - Sorry,
! I had to get your viral Zara top via Vinted! It was the perfect addition to my non-existing night-out-top archive.ITEMS ADDED TO WISHLIST: 0
FASHION MOOD: Life is faster than my wardrobe these days. I need to slow down both with my life and my wardrobe in the next few weeks.
FASHION THOUGHTS: I am back and forth between ‘I love my wardrobe and don’t need anything at the moment’ and ‘I have so many ideas, I want to go shopping!’.
STYLING MY SCREENSHOTS
One thing you must know about me is that I am lazy plus I am in a lot of positions in my everyday life where I need to make quick decisions. Not the best combination. Getting dressed, I want to look and feel great with minimal effort. And let me tell you there were times when I was close to giving up and planning to just embrace the Steven Jobs style formula for the rest of my life.
Enter my new favorite new hobby: Styling my screenshots. Those can be:
saved Instagram posts
screenshots of campaigns / ads from brands I love
screenshots from lookbooks from my favorite brands (The Row, Toteme etc.)
screenshots from online shops
and, as of lately: looks
users styled for me!
I had a bit of time yesterday so I opened the screenshot folder on my phone and styled some looks. I need to be brutally honest here: I’m picky with my personal style. I’m such an extreme minimalist and I am so emotional with my clothes, I tend to feel like an alien if only one little detail feels off. To my surprise, all the looks felt so me. A big thank you to everyone who styled me on Indyx and please keep the fabulous looks coming!
As if
had read my thoughts, she styled the ARKET denim shirt that was collecting dust in my wardrobe for a year now. The flip flops felt more me than my Birkenstocks, so I made a little tweak. I also liked the minimal sunglasses better with this and added my off-white hand bag.
The coolest process started with the next look I styled:
(she has the best open closet on Indyx!) styled a Second Female jacket I got at a sample sale when I still worked in fashion last year. I don’t really wear this jacket much because it’s a bit big on me (sample sizes and all!) and I didn’t really know how to style it. Along comes Jillian! She had mistaken this for a Toteme jacket and had styled it with my By Aylin Koenig Debbie dress. Plus, she was the first to use this Zara bag I hadn’t gotten a chance to wear. The bag was included in one of my Sunday Updates and my genius little sister read my newsletter and got it for my birthday!
So now that I was wearing the ‘Toteme’ jacket anyway, I remembered a screenshot I had saved from their lookbook a few months back when I had also styled another Toteme look. It took me three seconds to change into this, added flip flops instead of ballet flats and I love this.

So apparently styling Toteme website looks is something I should do more! Pro tip: Use the Ready-to-wear > Outerwear section! The best treasures are where the most pieces are styled in one look!
Ewelina who writes the amazing Substack ‘
’ and someone called ‘stellaonroyce’ on Indyx (please comment if you’re on Substack!) had the same thought and came up with a similar combination for my trench coat. I love this and will definitely wear this on cooler summer days! It’s so funny to see that people gravitate towards the same things with Indyx social styling - patterns, prints, texture! And my Zara bag. This is what I call my ‘Ibiza’ sweater, styled by
- it’s definitely a look I’d wear for dinner in a summer vacation. Sigrid’s idea of adding a black bag will be saved as an alternative.THINGS WORTH SAVING THIS WEEK
I need to recommend two
posts! (Anyone else behind on their Substack reads?) - Sogole left me speechless with two posts that were next-level creative. One post had all the summer vibes, the other one explained a bit of the magic of ‘effortless’ we’re all craving (I mean, The Row vs. The Olsens - brilliant!).I love the Substack notes feed more than anything. Last week, this came up from someone whose name I cropped off when making the screenshot (sorry). But it’s such a brilliant quote from Bella Freud’s podcast (i.e. Fashion Neurosis, her latest episode with Allesandro Michelle). I didn’t have a chance to listen to the full episode yet but how good and true is the quote? I feel like this could be an entire
post.FASHION MOOD IN ONE PICTURE
Well, I’m in the mood for styling my screenshots and since we’re looking forward to yet another rainy week in Germany - guess who’s shamelessy copying this Hailey Bieber look next week (minus the naked skin)?
Btw, anyone else loving her style but being confused about it because it’s actually too Gen Z and over the top and then again she wears the best minimal looks like below?
Happy weekend, everyone!
The looks from Indyx are SO good!! I’ve also searched for the Maria top second-hand. Your success just reignited my excitement.
Aaaahhh Anika, I’m so glad you found the top on Vinted!! It looks so good on you, and I love the way Julia styled it!! It’s a great ‘going out’ top (wore it last week going out with friends for tapas and wine!) and totally suits your minimalist vibe. I love alllll your outfits here, and especially whenever you wear that cream Zara sweater. It goes with so much. I’m also with you on Hailey B’s style. I find myself always saving her looks but they do skew very young.
