HOW TO USE INDYX AS A NON-DATA GIRL
... BREAKING NEWS: I am adding 'Indyx stylist' to my bio.
News update, everyone! I am beyond excited to announce that from this day on, you can book me as your personal stylist on Indyx. When almost a year ago, I wrote about the app’s pros and cons and my struggles as using it as a non-data girl here, I’ve mainly found it helpful when I needed a visual outfit plan for a summer vacation.
Since then, I’ve been using Indyx more and more and have discovered the social styling tool as one of my favorite features. So when
I once took a personality test for my day job that said my personality colors are green with a hint of blue. What the hell does that mean, you think? It means I am creative, empathic, social and I am led by emotions more than data. The hint of blue says that, on the other hand, I love structure, facts and formulas. Plus, I am a very visual person.
So how do you use an app as Indyx (a digital way to catalogue your wardrobe) with this kind of personality when most features on Indyx are targeted at data and facts? So many people that share their experience with Indyx are enthusiastic about the statistics on how many times they’ve used an item, how much money they’ve spent and how many pieces they own in which category. Numbers, however, don’t speak to me. What does speak to me are pictures and flat-lays. So let me break down how I use Indyx.
1. STRUCTURING MY WARDROBE LIKE A STORE
I love how the app gives me an overview of all of the pieces I own in a catalogue-style. As someone who loves visual merchandising, this gives me the feeling of walking into a very curated store and is more pleasing to my eyes and my brain than my clothes hanging in my closet. ‘Shopping my closet’ gets an entirely new meaning when you have an app that looks like your favorite online store - only with your own pieces.

2. IDENTIFYING ‘NEVERS’, ‘BAD BUYS’ AND GAPS
In the way my brain hates numbers, it would never tell me what my ‘bad buys’ are or which ‘never to be worn’ pieces are hanging in my wardrobe. I just forget about them. They don’t get seen.
Having all of my pieces digitalized, identifying ‘nevers’, ‘bad buys’ and gaps is easy. I got a caramel-colored bag last fall, for instance. I wondered why I hated it for five months. Looking at it on the Indyx app, I saw how ridiculously different the color was from my ‘usual’ color scheme - so I tried to style it with all-black outfits. When that didn’t work either, I decided to let it go and upload it on Vinted.
3. IDENTIFYING HABITS IN CONSUMPTION AND OUTFIT-REPEATING
Indyx told me I have enough black dresses. Indyx also told me that I don’t outfit-repeat enough and that’s maybe why some pieces still don’t feel like my own.
4. SOCIAL STYLING: THE BENEFITS OF GETTING STYLED BY OTHERS
When the aforementioned personality test said I was ‘social’, I immediately knew what it meant by that. I love human connections and I am always seriously interested in people and what they do. When Indyx launched their social styling tool, I started styling my favorite Substack writers - so much fun and such a different way to connect and talk!
I love getting different perspectives on my own wardrobe by other people, too. Last Thursday, when I didn’t know what to wear to the airport, I scrolled through my social styling looks on Indyx and found this one by Alexandra Petersson (

Getting styled by others has given me such valuable insights:
Which looks that others style for me do I really like? How many pieces are used? Which colors are used?
Which style formulas do I want to wear more often? When Alexandra styled me in a long-sleeve and skirt, I knew that it was one of the formulas I needed to add to my summer style formulas list again.
Which pieces do others gravitate towards in my own wardrobe? It’s mostly the more interesting pieces like my snakeskin clutch, my leopard bag or a ruffled top.
How can my ‘nevers’ be worn more often? I hardly reach for my striped shirts these days and still loved this look a lovely user styled for me, including instructions on how to style the sweater over the shoulders.
I love booking stylists and have already done two sessions with Allison Bornstein for instance. Seeing your own wardrobe with the fresh eyes of an outsider is so helpful on all levels and makes me see my clothes through different eyes - and it makes me actually try on different outfits (I’m lazy). It’s the best investment for my style satisfaction and my wardrobe as a whole.
With an app like Indyx, it’s even easier to get someone else’s angle on your own wardrobe because it’s just a click away and the other user has access to your entire wardrobe in a neat outlay.
I also love
’s wardrobe and styled a few looks for her that she documented in her ‘Week in Outfits’.I love playing around with other people’s favorite pieces and discover the variety of their wardrobes. Through styling others, I got so many ideas for my own closet, too.
5. DOCUMENTING MY OUTFITS BY USING THE SELFIE FUNCTION
While I couldn’t be bothered to do a flat-lay every day as a very impatient person who is, as I said, a non-data girl, I love the selfie function you get as an Indyx Insider. To me, it’s the outfit in real life. My non-data, emotional brain remembers the occasion, the day, the feelings I had. The other, structured side of my brain loves the monthly overview. The observations I had when reflecting on my outfit selfies are priceless!
6. OUTFIT-PLANNING FOR VACATIONS
While I am (again) too lazy to outfit-plan more than a day in advance (I am forced to do so when taking a 6.30 am train twice a week for work), I tend to get anxious when packing so I love the collection function when packing for a longer vacation - it’s fast and easy. This way, I remembered how happy I was with all my Greece looks from last year and simply copied them this year and I managed to plan an entire summer vacation to Capetown in the depth of German winter.
7. SPENDING TIME WITH MY PERSONAL STYLE
Lately, I have shifted my goal from ‘finding my personal style’ to ‘building a personal style’ - and Indyx comes in very handy when spending time on that process. I loved their personal style quiz, their style workshop is amazing and just by documenting my outfits, I get to know my personal style better.
LET’S CONNECT ON INDYX
So, why should you hire me as your personal stylist to receive a lookbook from me?
I think my hidden superpower is that I am styling with my own busy, ‘normal’ life in mind. I work full time in a corporate job and I still want my obsession with fashion to be visible at all times. I know the struggle of schlepping around a laptop in the bag I wanted for so long but hasn’t quite brought the comfort I wanted. I am perfectly aware of the challenge of putting together an outfit that needs to fit my lifestyle.
On the other hand, I love styling and would love to become your online fashion friend more than anything.
So let’s connect, let me bring new perspectives and joy to your wardrobe and take advantage of the walking fashion dictionary that I am.
You can find my open closet here and book a lookbook here.
Every lookbook includes ten looks with detailed notes such as styling tips and more options. I will add useful links where I think they are a great addition.
See you on Indyx, I can’t wait!
